Members of World Solutions Initiative Help People of Pacora, Peru Rebuild After Devasting Floods
"With the help of donations, we were able to install 50 water filtertration systems in 12 villages along the river, impacting the lives of 5,000 people."
Kurt Schellpeper, Founder, World Solutions Initiative
In early 2017, El Niño caused devastating floods in Peru washing away houses, roads, and bridges along the coast. Also flood waters contaminated many wells, cisterns, and water processing facilities.
One of the most affected areas was Pacora, Peru. The Leche River overflowed, swamping villages near the river and destroyed their houses. Roads were impassable, blocking the surviving villagers from accessing shelter, food, or clean water. Military helicopters were required to bring provisions and evacuate children, mothers, and the elderly. After the floods, the people started rebuilding but their wells had become muddy and contaminated.
With the help of donations, the World Solutions Initiative team was able to install 50 water filtration systems in 12 villages along the Leche river, impacting the lives of 5000 people.
The filters connect to 5 gallon buckets, remove mud and parasites, and last 5 - 10 years. The people are now able to make their own drinking water regardless of what their circumstances brings.
